When I see this it makes me wonder about all the resons we have this much medication that needs to be safely gotten rid of – are they overprescribed?  people are not ‘compliant’ with them? they improve without them? they seek other ways to feel better?

Single (one person) $40/day; A/C additional $5/day

Yoga and Ayurveda are sister sciences for healing, integration and transformation on all levels of our being. Traditional Ayurveda focuses more on the treatment side of this process (Chikitsa) for body and mind, while Traditional Yoga aims more at self-development and Self-realization (Sadhana).

Modern Yoga has sometimes tried to create a therapeutic model, but this is largely apart from Ayurveda or restricted to asana only. Such a model is limited and seldom reflects the greater Yoga tradition or the Ayurvedic ramifications of Yoga philosophy and psychology. This course aims at providing a more traditional model of Yoga therapy based upon Ayurveda, the medical aspect of the Yoga tradition.  Ayurveda is now recognized as one of the most important systems of mind-body medicine available and its popularity is spreading throughout the world.

This comprehensive program covers  the main Ayurvedic concepts and language of the doshas, subdoshas, dhatus(tissues), malas (waste products), srota-systems (physical channels) and agnis (digestive capacity of the body and mind).

This is a thorough, foundational course for students based on the books and distance learning programs of Dr David Frawley and taught in the Sivananda yoga tradition. The course is designed for students of all kinds. There is no required medical background for those wishing to take the course.  You may already have a background in Yoga, such as gained by graduates of our TTC or some kind of previous Yoga training.

The goal of the course is to provide students a foundation in Ayurveda.  The course qualifies a person to function as an ‘Ayurvedic Life-Style Counselor’, assessing Ayurvedic constitutional types and how to guide people to balance through daily health regimens and life-style recommendations.  You’ll be introduced to the basic assessment of Constitutional types and be able to educate your students/clients on balance through understanding themselves through Ayurvedic principles.

This is the first in a series of modules offered by the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Organization in collaboration with Dr David Frawley (Vamadeva).   The course manuals are derived from the correspondence courses of the American Institute of Vedic Studies.  Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a 120 hour Certificate from Sivananda and AIVS jointly.

Topics of study:

  1. Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy Overview – traditional and modern Ayurveda, Chikitsa, Ayurvedic Yoga therapy, Integral Yoga and Ayurveda therapist
  2. History and Philosophy of Ayurveda
  3. 3 Gunas
  4. 5 elements,
  5. 3 doshas, physical and mental tendencies
  6. 20 Qualities, 10 pairs of opposites
  7. 5 Subdoshas of Vata, Pitta and Kapha
